Sarah Smith – Quito, Ecuador

June 15, 2011

Sarah Smith writes about her work in Ecuador:
“I work for a private British school in Quito, Ecuador. It’s been an excellent experience so far as I’ve been able to teach a wide variety of classes like KET, PET and FCE as well as exam preparation courses. I often visit businesses to teach BEC at different levels and I’ve had the opportunity to give teaching workshops to local teachers at secondary schools. TKT (*see note) has been a very worthwhile experience as it has allowed me to review the skills we were taught at CELTA. Finally, I’ve been given the chance to undergo training to become a KET examiner. I’ve been able to develop professionally whilst experiencing an exciting culture.”

Sarah is working for Southern Cross British School.

Note: “The Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) is a test from Cambridge ESOL about teaching English to speakers of other languages. It aims to increase teachers’ confidence and enhance job prospects by focusing on the core teaching knowledge needed by teachers of primary, secondary or adult learners, anywhere in the world.”
