Bawso – Swansea – Volunteers needed – immediate

Bawso are currently seeking to recruit volunteers for Swansea area for a Support Project and an Administration Project. Details and information are given below.

“Established in 1995, BAWSO is an all Wales, Welsh Government Accredited Support Provider, delivering specialist services to people from Black and Ethnic Minority backgrounds who are affected by domestic abuse and other forms of abuse, including Female Genital Mutilation, Forced Marriage, Human Trafficking & Prostitution.

They also provide interpreting services and volunteering opportunities.

BAWSO currently run projects supporting over 2000 people every year in Wales through the provision of 4 purpose built refuges, two safe houses, and an extensive Outreach and Resettlement Programme and Floating Support Programme. We provide support, advice and information from our offices in Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Newport, Swansea and Wrexham.”

Below are the person requirements for each project


Administration Project – Person Skills Requirements


  • Excellent verbal and written Communication skills.
  • A commitment to Bawso’s aims and values of empowerment, support and equality, which underpin all the work undertaken by Bawso.
  • Able to grasp ideas and concepts easily
  • Experience of managing a busy switchboard.
  • Experience of establishing and maintaining office systems.
  • Experience of handling correspondence.
  • Experience of handling enquiries.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Understanding of Black and Ethnic minorities ethnic cultures.
  • Ability to collect, organise and process information efficiently.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access and internet & Email systems.
  • Ability to use own initiative to prioritise workload.
  • A well informed commitment to achieving equal opportunities through practical implementation of anti-discriminatory practices and a working knowledge of equality legislation, e.g. Race Relations Act, Sex Discriminations Act, Disabled Persons Act.
  • Flexible and adaptable to change
  • Motivated and well organised
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Discreet
