Online English teacher for Chinese students learning English

March 5, 2018

Ying Bradwell, the COO of  WordPlay Media Ltd. has written with an interesting proposal:

WordPlay Media Ltd is an educational technology company based in Newcastle, England. We are a passionate language teaching team, looking for innovative fun and effective ways to make kids enjoy learning English. We are now looking for outgoing and talented individuals who we can train to be creative and expressive online teachers for Chinese young learners.

Working with Edinburgh University,  we are developing an innovative platform to help teaching English to elementary school students in China. Part of this platform, in conjunction with our Chinese partners, consists of  online teaching, whereby there is a Chinese teacher in the classroom in China with a small group of children, and a Western teacher via an online link.

As the material to be taught is fairly simple, we’re looking to hire English teachers, who would be able to give a dynamic, lively presentation rather than a dry delivery. Teachers will deliver live-teaching of English words and expressions through story-telling, vivid acting of real-life scenarios, and other forms of innovative performance- based presentation.

Our students are Chinese young learners, ages 6 to 17 years old. Each online teacher will teach a small class of 4-15 students, and there will also be a Chinese teacher in the classroom in China.

WordPlay will arrange a 1-hour online session of teacher training, to help candidates get to know the teaching materials, and to know how to use the online teaching portal. Candidates can then sign up to online teaching slots of 30 or 60 minutes on weekends 7:00 am – 1:00 pm and weekdays 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. (UK Time).

If you are interested, please send your CV (with photo) and a one-minute voice recording to us: y.bradwell@wordplay.media (Mrs Ying Bradwell). We will get back in touch with you within a week.

The voice recording should be any short story or excerpt from a book or newspaper with a few different characters speaking. It should be read clearly and simply, but with some dynamism and expression, bringing life to the characters.
